Communities in Wakefield want change

18 November 2013

"People that live in Belle Vue wanted change and this funding is helping the community to directly address issues that are important to us them"

People’s Health Trust grant enabled the community of Belle Vue in Wakefield to convert a disused builder’s compound on the estate into twelve mini allotments, giving residents the chance to have a go at growing their own food – some for the first time.

Partnering with Belle Vue Community Association, Wakefield District Housing and St Catherine’s Community Centre, Incredible Edible Wakefield offered “Help Us Grow” sessions and an “Edible Gardening Club.’ The project continues to enhance skills, encouraging local people to feel more in control of their own health and wellbeing, making their community even better.

“People in Belle Vue wanted change and this funding is helping the community to directly address issues that are important to us. We’re supporting people to regain and learn skills, make friends, become more active, more confident and more connected with their local community. We are delighted to have received this funding from People’s Health Trust.” Andy, Founding Director, Incredible Edible
