Green Synergy

08 June 2017

Community gardening and horticultural therapy have been helping people to improve their lives.

Lincoln-based charity, Green Synergy, has been working hard on their new project – Tower Power – which sees weekly sessions for children and an adult social group based within an existing community garden.

The two-year project hopes to address social isolation experienced by young people and adult residents in the estate. There are exciting plans going forward – including a music video!

Mary Hollis, Chief Executive of Green Synergy, said:

“Throughout June we have lots of different activities planned including launching our new 2.5 acre community garden site. We will officially launch the garden at the Lincolnshire Show.

“We have created a small version of the gardens we will be building for everyone too see and we will be selling items and showcasing what we are doing with the charity.

“We are also going to do a sponsored walk along the Viking Way with people joining us along the way to raise awareness.

“We also have two videos that we have almost finished - one is a mini documentary about our projects and featuring volunteers. The other is a music video – us singing along to a kid’s song from the Poddington Peas with the lyrics changed.”

Tower Power, and all Green Synergy’s projects work in communities experiencing disadvantage and with vulnerable people.

The activities build community spirit, enhance local community cohesion and make positive and lasting changes.

Green Synergy began working with People’s Health Trust in 2013. They received funding through three grants by People’s Health Trust, using money raised by HealthComplete through the Health Lottery.

The charity has big ambitions for the future, including setting up a city farm and a community café!
