“We are delighted to receive this funding, allowing more support for carers in the Meon Valley.”

The Meon Valley Carers Group provide a welcome respite for people living with dementia and their carers, running a free monthly art therapy classes. Ex carers also continue to benefit.

“Once their caring role ceases, they [ex carers] are often left isolated. There is a vast void in their lives which they can struggle to fill. In our sessions they are able to explore a new hobby whilst supporting our current carers with advice and a sympathetic ear.” Jane, Coordinator of Meon Valley Carers Group

Over 8,000 people in Hampshire have a diagnosis of dementia, although it is estimated that more than 18,000 may be living with the condition. Around a third of the county’s Social Services budget is spent on supporting care within people’s homes. People’s Health Trust acknowledges the importance of this project; supporting carers and providing a social network to improve the quality of life for all involved.
