Strait Talk in Walthamstow

18 November 2013

“After the London riots young people felt their voices weren't being heard, so that’s why we set this up.”

“We are helping people to equip themselves with skills that are transferable. After the London riots young people felt their voices weren't being heard, so that’s why we set this up.” Andrew, Strait Talk founder

Youth Skills Network’s ‘Strait Talk’ works with teams of  community focused individuals aged 14-24 to learn valuable media skills and training, giving disadvantaged young people a voice to reach their community and beyond.

People’s Health Trust funded the project that runs over 11 months with a range of activities including a 24 hour media communications workshop. With their new skills, the group then host a live broadcast debate on the streets of Walthamstow, encouraging the local residents to get involved and have their voices heard to make positive changes in their community.
