Blackpool fun day

05 July 2018

Hundreds of local residents came out to enjoy a family fun day at Claremont Park in Blackpool.

Dozens of stalls and family activities were organised for the day, as well as superheroes and princesses to entertain children and a funfair for the whole family to enjoy.

The day was hosted by Claremont First Step Community Centre, who support the Local Conversation in Ten Streets – an area of Claremont.

As part of the project, residents chose three priorities to focus on – bringing people together, improving the environment and providing more opportunities for young people.

The free event attracted more than 900 local residents and it was a great opportunity for members to engage with the community and talk to residents who might want to get involved with the project.

Cathy Adams, from the Local Conversation, said: “It was great to see so many people having picnics in the park, and just enjoying a day out.

“The main purpose of the day was to find local residents who are interested in joining the project to help make Claremont an even better place to live and bring people together.”

Through the Local Conversation in Ten Streets, residents have developed a shared vision for their community so they can take control of the design, development and delivery of local change.

Previously, residents have worked hard to clear alleyways and have turned them into a place for residents to get together and plant colourful flowers and hang planters.

They also created an initiative which has seen 50 hanging baskets put up on lamp posts to brighten the streets up.
