Conwy charity receives grant to provide support for children with a disability

12 November 2013

Conwy Monkeys Climbing Club has received over £5,000 of funding from People’s Health Trust, using money raised by HealthDiverse through The Health Lottery.

The funding has enabled them to run a series of wall climbing sessions for children with a disability. The programme aims to support participants to build self-esteem and confidence, encourage them to make friends and offer them the opportunity to engage in sports that are often not accessible to them.

They will also provide social opportunities for the parents of the children to help reduce social isolation. By providing support, understanding and companionship, they aim to reduce stress levels and improve their overall health and wellbeing.

The project will take place in Llandudno Junction Leisure Centre in Conwy and approximately 30 children and 35 parents are expected to benefit from the project.

Judith Holliman, Chair – Conwy Monkeys Climbing Club said: “We are delighted to have received this funding from People’s Health Trust, which is enabling us to increase our programme of support for children with a disability and their parents or carers.

Chris Lunn, Director – HealthDiverse, said: “It’s great that money raised by HealthDiverse is being used to support local charities like Conwy Monkeys Climbing Club.

So far, more than half a million pounds has been raised for health good causes in Powys, Flintshire, Wrexham, Gwynedd, Conway, Denbighshire and Anglesey by HealthDiverse through The Health Lottery. Other charities to already receive funding from People's Health Trust in the region include: TCV, Carers Trust, WRVS, Waengoleugoed (Waen) Chapel Outreach Group, Hajjat Welfare Trust and The Garth Hillside Organic Garden.
