Lights, Camera, Action!

03 September 2015

It’s lights, camera, action for young people in Stratford, East London, now that Mobile Media Interactive has been awarded funding for a new film and media training project.

Young people living in Stratford have designed the programme, which will include the chance to make a short film highlighting local issues or personal stories that are important to them as well as the opportunity to meet industry professionals through a new training service launched by MMI with funding of £38,000 from the Trust – using money raised by HealthLives through The Health Lottery.

The 20-month project will be split into a film-making training course, work placements and creation of a media hub.

Each year a new group of young people will take part in the programme and previous students will meet up a minimum of once a month and continue to use the film equipment through the media hub.

Shantelle Rochester-Henry Director of MMI said: “The E.A.S.T project has been created by local people for local people.

“As well as gaining media skills and boosting their confidence, the young people involved in this project want to create something they are proud of so they can pass on the spirit of this project to other young people in the neighbourhood.

“This project will empower them to do something positive in their communities and, through their media hub and panel group, they will have a platform where their voices can be heard.”

The project is aimed at 16 - 25 year-olds but all ages are welcome. Registration is accepted throughout the year.
