Ten Streets celebrate

04 September 2018

"It is really important to take a moment and acknowledge all the work that the residents and the steering group have put in."

Local people's hard work was recognised as Claremont First Step Community Centre hosted its very first award ceremony in Blackpool.

The event was an opportunity to highlight the great work being done in the community by residents involved in the Local Conversation in Ten Streets.

Different awards and certificates were handed out, including for the Best Garden, Volunteer of the Year and a Partnership Volunteer award.

The accolades were judged by the project’s steering group, who spent time walking around the area to consider different nominations.

Johann Adams said: “We invited 60 people and every single person turned up! It was a really good night.

“It is really important to take a moment and acknowledge all the work that the residents and the steering group have put in.

“It was also a really good opportunity for local people, who might not have been that familiar with the project, to come along and find out more about it. Through coming to the event, we had two local people who now want to join the steering group.

“I hope that it becomes an annual event in some shape or form, taking the time to step back and really grasp all the amazing work being done in our neighbourhood.”

The project is funded by People’s Health Trust with money raised through The Health Lottery.

Through the Local Conversation in Ten Streets, residents have developed a shared vision for their community. They have worked hard to make where they live even better, clearing alleyways, planting bright flowers and planters and organising community days.
