Families welcome Liz Kendall MP

01 July 2016

Leicester West MP Liz Kendall visited Restorative Justice in Beaumont Leys recently to meet women involved in its Women of Peace project.

This initiative provides mediation services in the local community, helping to improve relationships between victims and offenders.

Restorative Justice (Midlands) CIC has been awarded £18,090 by People’s Health Trust, using money raised by HealthBelief through The Health Lottery.

The funding has been used to train 12 local women to resolve disputes and conflict in their community.

This training is helping the women to run weekly meetings aimed at addressing problems among women in their local neighbourhood as well as supporting and empowering women in crisis.

Volunteers also carry out monthly outreach sessions in the local area to raise awareness of the project.

The project is the result of a successful pilot scheme and seeks to improve relationships.

Liz Kendall MP said: “I’m delighted to be here today to see how the funding awarded by People’s Health Trust has supported women within their local communities.

“As the local Member of Parliament, I have been a long-term supporter of Restorative Justice’s work.

“The Women of Peace project has given 12 local women the opportunity to help reduce disputes, prevent problems from getting worse and building good relationships within our communities.”
