Using money raised by HealthPromote through The Health Lottery, local charity Hackney Playbus has been awarded a grant of almost £10,000 from People’s Health Trust.

Using money raised by HealthPromote through The Health Lottery, local charity Hackney Playbus has been awarded a grant of almost £10,000 from People’s Health Trust.

Hackney Playbus is a mobile play project and outreach service for young children under five years old and their parents and carers. Operating from a brightly painted double-decker bus fully-converted for early years play, it aims to take fun, freely chosen, creative and safe play opportunities to young children, through which they can develop the confidence and skills that will lay the foundations for learning. It seeks primarily to support families that are not currently accessing services for pre-school children.

The new funding is enabling them to deliver a series of ‘stay and play’ sessions for children under five years old. It will take the Playbus to two locations in Hackney, encouraging parents/carers to bring their children along and showing them local spaces that are family-friendly. The project offers opportunities to make friends and for local families to support each other.

Claire Kelly, Project Manager – Hackney Playbus, said: “We are delighted to have received this funding from People’s Health Trust, which is helping to bring local families together and to feel more connected with their local environment.

Chris Lunn, Director – HealthPromote, said: “It’s great that money raised by HealthPromote is being used to support local charities like Hackney Playbus.”

So far, almost £600,000 has been raised by HealthPromote through The Health Lottery for health good causes in Hackney, Islington, Enfield, Tower Hamlets, Haringey and the City of London. Youth Sport Trust, Alzheimer’s Society, Tower Hamlets National Childbirth Trust, Integratus Charity of the United Kingdom, The Conservation Volunteers and Sustrans are amongst the first to have already received funding from People’s Health Trust.
