Slough Senior Citizens get active and social

12 July 2013

A local group in Slough has received funding to run a programme that supports older people to stay social and active.

Slough Senior Citizens Group has received over £6,000 from People’s Health Trust, using money raised by HealthConfirm through The Health Lottery to fund their keep fit exercise programme in Chalvey.  They are hoping the weekly get together will help them feel less isolated and healthier.

John Hume, Chief Executive, People’s Health Trust, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support organisations like the Senior Citizen’s Group in Slough. Projects like this not only help to improve individuals’ general wellbeing, but also serve as a great way of getting people out of the house, getting active, and meeting people from the local area – and ultimately strengthening the community.”

Fiona Mactaggart, MP for Slough, said: “The Slough Senior Citizens Group has become a vital aspect of the Slough community. The latest Keep Fit Exercise Programme not only offers a place for people to come and take part in exercise, but it also offers a friendly and welcoming environment for getting together and strengthening community bonds.

“It’s fantastic to see the money raised by HealthConfirm through The Health Lottery being put to such good use in Slough.”

So far, over £830,000 has been raised for good causes in Berkshire by HealthConfirm through The Health Lottery.
