Duncan Stephenson: Chair, Policy, Research and Advocacy Committee

Duncan is Chair of the Policy, Research and Advocacy Committee and has been with the Trust since 2016. Duncan has over 20 years’ experience in External Affairs, including leading the policy, campaigns and communications for two national charities. Duncan is currently Director of Policy and Public Affairs at the Chartered Trading Standards Institute where he has overall responsibility for the Institute’s policy, campaigning and communications activities. Previously, he was Director of External Affairs (and Deputy CEO) at the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH), where he established and led a highly successful and award-winning department. Duncan devised and directed a significant number of high impact campaigns and profile- raising initiatives, on a variety of policy issues including, promoting measures to tackle obesity, advocating for drug policy reform, raising awareness of gambling related harms and challenging vaccination misinformation. Duncan previously led the parliamentary and stakeholder relations team for the Care Quality Commission. At the YMCA, Duncan headed up a national campaign and All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on body image and created several national health and wellbeing programmes working in partnership with NHS, DWP and Department of Health.
