Our fathers, brothers and sons face a mental health crisis: 95 per cent of community organisations we spoke to told us that poor mental health is the number one factor affecting men right now with 85 per cent identifying loneliness as a major issue.
Today our new report on men’s health contains insight from our network of community organisations working on the front line to tackle men’s health inequalities in neighbourhoods across the country.
The levels of poor health affecting men and their shortening life expectancy are a travesty. It’s completely unacceptable that our brothers, sons, fathers and grandfathers are dying too young.
Today, we’re hosting an event on the future of men’s health with representatives from government, health services, community organisations and companies, including McGinley Support Services, West Ham United FC, Centrica, BT Group, Clancy Group, Unipart, Aviva and Compass Group. We will share insights from this conversation in the days ahead.
Together we can:
- Commit to further exploration of what is driving poor health for men, and wat could be done differently
- Support a national conversation, led by trusted community groups and business, to hear directly from men about what would help
- Co-develop guidance, frameworks and campaigns with me, employers and frontline services - rooted in lived experience and local knowledge
- Work together with government to address some of the fundamental issues driving poor health for men
- Support local pilots that bring together employers and community organisations to try new ways of supporting men's health where they live and work.
