Today, on International Men’s Day, People’s Health Trust launches an appeal for a new Men’s Health Fund – a major initiative open to businesses, trusts and foundations and other donors, to support the growing crisis in men’s health.
People’s Health Trust aims to raise £500,000 by May 2026 and funding will support community-led priorities that improve men’s health and wellbeing. People’s Health Trust will match the first £250,000 enabling donors to double the impact of their contributions and help men to live longer, healthier lives.
As the government’s strategy states, on average, men from disadvantaged communities are dying too young and spending up to 20 years of their lives in poor health. Men are disproportionately affected by cancer, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and suicide remains the leading cause of death for men under 50.
Money raised through the Fund will be used to develop a national programme supporting local priorities to address the root causes of poor health among men including insecure housing, income that does not meet basic needs and isolation. Services will focus on men who are most at risk of poor mental and physical health, particularly those from lower socio-economic groups and/or who are working in industries with high levels of poor mental health.
The launch of the Men’s Health Fund comes as the Government today unveils England’s first-ever Men’s Health Strategy. The Trust welcomes the strategy and believes that community-led solutions must be central to improving outcomes for men.
People’s Health Trust Chief Executive, John Hume, said:
“Today is a momentous moment, as England receives its first ever men’s health strategy. Men are needlessly dying younger, and are living for longer with serious health conditions which affect their health and wellbeing. Today, People’s Health Trust is able to play its part by launching the Men’s Health Fund Appeal which will address some of the causes of poor physical and mental health, including debt, housing, work and social isolation. We believe that by working with corporate partners, other trusts and foundations and the public, we can create a fund which has a real impact of the health of men and older boys.”
People’s Health Trust has 14 years of experience supporting thousands of grassroots projects to improve men’s wellbeing. The Trust is also bringing together businesses with grassroots organisations to develop initiatives designed by and aimed at men who need support most. Through the Men’s Health Fund, we are inviting partners to join us in tackling one of the most pressing health inequalities.
People’s Health Trust aims to raise £500,000 by May 2026 with every donation up to £250,000 matched pound for pound by the Trust. You can support People’s Health Trust’s Men’s Health Fund to help stop men dying too young here.
