Organised by The Kite Trust, the project supports young members of the LGBTQ+ community around Fenland in Cambridgeshire.

Two pride flags in the wind in front of a clear blue sky.

LGBTQ+ Youth Groups in Fenland supports young people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or who are questioning their sexuality or gender identity in the Wisbech and March areas of Fenland.

Through its fortnightly group sessions the project addresses social isolation many young people experience due to a lack of inclusive spaces in the area. It aims to remove barriers for members of the LGBTQ+ community that can cause isolation and mental health problems?. The project builds confidence and self-esteem, improves mental wellbeing and tackles discrimination.

Group members choose what activities they want to do including arts and crafts, cookery, games, debates and sessions with guest speakers. The group will often organise trips to different parts of the area as well. This structure helps to support a sense of community amongst the young people.

“Having that little bit of understanding and that little bit of support makes so much difference.”
